Curry Me Wonderful

Today was a work and workout day.  I woke up, read in bed, cleaned a bit, consumed my last overly ripe plum, then headed to the fitness center.  I did 30 minutes of elliptical (both forwards and backwards) before heading to the weight room for three circuits:
  • Bicep curls: 3 x 10 reps x 15lb dumbbells each hand
  • Plié squats: 3 x 10 reps x 15lb dumbbell
  • Tricep dips: 3 x 10 reps x own body weight
    __________________________________________________________
  • Forward V raises: 3 x 10 reps x 10lb dumbbells each hand
  • Reverse squats with donkey kick: 3 x 5 reps each leg x 10lb dumbbell each hand
  • Reverse fly: 3 x 10 reps x 10lb dumbbells each hand
    __________________________________________________________
  • Power plank row: 3 x 5 rows each arm x 5lb dumbbells each hand
  • Skater lunges: 3 x 10 each leg x 10lb dumbbell
  • Olympic press: 3 x 10 reps x 15lb dumbbells each hand

After finishing up my workout, I came home and immediately made killer oatmeal cookie pancakes which I slathered with peanut butter and honey. Seriously delish!

I skipped off to the post office once I finished my brunch and boy was it a very brisk walk.  Seriously, this time last week we were walking around in sweatshirts because it was 50+ degrees out.  This whole cold wind and snow thing is so not okay.  I got the the post office ten minutes before it was supposed to close and I left fifteen minutes after it closed.  I was 15th in line!  Apparently people remembered it was Valentine’s Day on Tuesday and had to get cards/chocolates/gifts flying all over the country.  Note to self: go earlier.  When I got back home and had warmed up a bit, I did some more cleaning and test coding.  It then occurred to me that I was hungry again so I sliced up some banana and strawberries and mixed up some chocolate yogurt dip.

Nomnom!  Great mid-afternoon snackage if I do say so myself.  I did more cleaning afterwards, watched some Worst Cooks in America, and ended up doing research on confined placental mosaicism and chimerism for my Cytogenetics presentation on the 28th of the month.  I had always thought that chimerism was the same thing as mosaicism but oh no, I was wrong.  Good thing I checked into that, huh?  Essentially mosaicism occurs when two distinct cell lines diverge from a single zygote but chimerism happens when two distinct cell lines converge from two different zygote.

With that cleared up I got to work on dinner.  I sliced and diced onions, carrots, garlic, broccoli, etc. and drained my chickpeas.  I had already cooked up some in my slow cooker (seriously, the best, easiest, most perfect way to cook dried beans at home) so they would be ready to be thrown into the curry.

Things came together, my dinner guest arrived, and I served up the red curry lentil and vegetables dish over quinoa which Mary furnished.  Scrumptious.

The dish had a nice flavor that wasn’t overwhelming but was fairly deep.  The brown lentils cooked up well and weren’t mushy while the garbanzo beans gave everything a nice soft crunch.  I really liked the whole thing overall.  Mary and I hung out after we finished eating and talked a bunch.  We’re actually fairly similar in some ways which is always nice to find out.  =D

Later in the evening, while watching The Voice and He’s Just Not That Into You (I flip back and forth between the channels during commercial breaks) I had a bowl of chocolate frozen yogurt, chocolate/peanut butter/butterscotch chips, chocolate & caramel sauce, and left over cake scraps…we had a lot from the Reese’s cake.

Really nice way to top off the evening.  For now I’m going to go and watch more guilty pleasure TV and work more on my Cyto presentation.  I should get some good sleep tonight to because tomorrow is a morning of parish breakfast and 11am church.  I wonder what the special is on the menu!

Questions: Do you like red curry dishes?
What do you do with leftover cake scraps?

  1. That's right ladies and gentlemen! I was lucky enough to taste what you can only read about (Sorry to rub it in), and man was it good. I went back for seconds...and probably could have done thirds:)Thanks for the fun night Jillian!
